Understanding QR Codes: How They Work and Why They Are Everywhere

What Are QR Codes?

QR (Quick Response) codes are two-dimensional barcodes that can be scanned by smartphones and other devices to quickly access information. Unlike traditional barcodes that store data in one dimension (vertical lines), QR codes store data in two dimensions (a grid of squares), allowing them to hold significantly more information.

How QR Codes Work

A QR code consists of black squares arranged on a white background in a square grid. The pattern encodes data that can be decoded by a scanner. QR codes include error correction, which allows them to be read even if partially damaged or obscured. There are four error correction levels: L (7%), M (15%), Q (25%), and H (30%).

Use our QR code generator to create QR codes for URLs, text, or other data. Use the QR code decoder to read QR codes from images.
